Cairn Privacy Policy

The short version

Cairn collects nothing. Your recordings, transcripts, and your kids’ names stay on your iPhone. We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no ads. We never see your words — and no AI server ever sees them either.

That’s the whole policy. The details below just spell it out.

What Cairn stores, and where

Cairn is a voice journal for parents. When you record a moment, the app saves:

• the audio recording,
• a transcript of what you said,
• details you enter yourself (your children’s first names, optional birthdays, a color),
• and small settings (like which child you last recorded for).

All of it is stored only on your device, in Cairn’s private app storage. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. If you export a book (PDF and audio), the export goes only where you choose to send it.

What we collect

Nothing. Cairn has no analytics, no tracking, no crash reporting, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no accounts. We cannot see your recordings, your transcripts, your children’s names, or even that you use the app. The App Store privacy label for Cairn is “Data Not Collected” because that is literally true.

On-device processing

Transcription and organizing happen entirely on your iPhone, using Apple’s on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence. Your audio and words are never sent to a server for processing — ours or anyone else’s. (Your device may download Apple’s speech model to your phone; nothing of yours travels the other way.)

Permissions Cairn asks for

• Microphone — to record your voice. Recording only happens when you tap record.
• Speech Recognition — to turn your recordings into text, on your device. Apple’s permission dialog is standard for this feature; in Cairn’s case the recognition runs locally and nothing is sent to Apple’s servers by Cairn.

If you decline either, the rest of the app still works; you can change your mind anytime in Settings.

Purchases

Cairn offers one optional, one-time purchase, processed entirely by Apple through your Apple Account. We never see your payment details, your name, or your Apple ID. Apple’s own privacy policy governs the transaction. Whatever you have recorded remains yours to read, hear, and export whether or not you purchase anything.

Children’s privacy

Cairn is made for parents. It does not collect personal information from anyone — adult or child. What you record about your children stays on your device, under your control, until you choose to export or share it.

Your data, your control

• Export: you can export each child’s complete book (PDF plus all original audio) at any time, from the app.
• Deletion: deleting the app from your iPhone deletes everything Cairn stored. (Export first if you want to keep your recordings — we have no copy and cannot recover them.)

Changes

If a future version of Cairn adds optional iCloud sync, your content would go only to your private iCloud account, end-to-end encrypted where available — never to us. We’ll update this policy and the app’s own privacy wording before any such change ships.
